  • Most Improved Referee: Ziv Greenberg – A model of growth, development, and consistent improvement throughout the season, showing great dedication and a real desire to self-improvement. Congratulations Ziv!
  • Marcel Doucet Scholarship Award Recipients: Noam Knurik & Noah Murray True leaders, both on the floor and in our community. Combined, these two provided over 400 hours of service over the past 3 to 4 years. They are dedicated volunteers who are still in high school, yet still have the drive and want to volunteer with us! Congratulations to both!

A Special Thank You to FeelBetta Fitness!

We’d also like to give a huge shoutout to our major Platinum sponsor, Nathan Wong from FeelBetta Fitness, who attended our tournament, as both a player and a sponsor, and showed incredible support for our league. Thank you, Nathan, for helping us continue to grow and thrive as a community. We couldn’t do this without partners like you! Visit feelbetta.ca for more information.

The Grand Finale

As medals were handed out and trophies lifted, it was clear that this season wasn’t just about winning, but about the journey, the friendships, and the memories created along the way. Thank you all for making this tournament—and this season—one to remember. As you all saw during the Awards Ceremony, our Association continues to grow, and that will continue to be our goal!

President’s Weekly Recap: Tournament Weekend 1

President’s Weekly Recap: RCFHA Tournament Weekend 1

Welcome! We are back, but now recapping a very exciting, yet hectic weekend of play during the 2024-2025 RCFHA Tournament Weekend 1! Tournament Weekend 1 started off with a bang with very competitive games with all teams in the hunt, and what a fantastic start it was! A big thank you to everyone—players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and families—for making it such a success. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from Tournament Weekend 1:

Errington Elementary: Snacks, Swag & the Balloon Archway to Glory

The Mites, Junior Squirt, and Senior Squirt divisions brought the energy and excitement to Errington Elementary School. It was great to see so many kids playing hard and having fun, while also showing great sportsmanship throughout the day.

Errington was buzzing beyond just the games, as we also hosted the Events portion of the Tournament there. Between the busy concession, RCFHA merchandise table, raffle prizes, and of course, our infamous balloon arch, there was something for everyone. The atmosphere felt like a true community event, and it was amazing to see families and friends gathering, enjoying the (albeit it small) space, and creating memories. A huge thank you to all the volunteers from every team who signed up to help run our tables. Your support played a massive role in keeping everything running smoothly and creating such a welcoming environment for all.

One fun highlight was how many kids were curious about what was happening at Burnett with the older divisions. In true RCFHA fashion, we made it happen—connecting the livestream from Burnett straight to the TV at Errington! Watching everyone crowd around to check in on the action at the other venue was a special moment and really brought both locations together. A special shoutout goes to Amas Tsui, who seemed to be our most dedicated scout! Every chance he got, Amas would come up, say hi, and check in on what was going on at Burnett. He’s a friendly and thoughtful kid, and it was great to see him showing so much enthusiasm—not to mention, he’s also a fantastic player and teammate on the floor.

Burnett Brings the Heat

Meanwhile, over at Burnett, the PeeWee, Bantam, and Adult divisions were delivering some high-level competition of their own. PeeWee and Bantam teams enjoyed the luxury of a double-elimination format, but you wouldn’t know it by how fiercely they competed in their Round Robins. Every point, every game mattered and the intensity on the floor reflected that. For the divisions operating under the single-elimination format, the stakes were even higher. Teams knew that Round Robin results were critical, and as a result, we saw players giving it their absolute all in every shift, every period. The passion, teamwork, and dedication shown were outstanding across the board.

Avengers, Assemble… and Surprise Everyone!

A huge shoutout to the entire Avengers team, including players, coaches, and parents. They were incredibly supportive of one another and turned in a performance that outpaced their Regular Season standings. The confidence and belief they showed on and off the floor were amazing to witness—exactly the kind of heart we love to see at tournament time!

The Crashouts Crash Through!

And a special nod to Brendan Zhan and Zamaan Meralli of the Bantam Crashouts team, who stepped up big when it mattered most. Their efforts helped propel the team into the second weekend of play, and were just overall very exciting to watch with their teamwork and ability to generate plays out of nowhere!

Looking Ahead: Our Final Weekend of the Season!

Thank you once again for making Tournament Weekend 1 so memorable. Let’s carry that same energy into Tournament Weekend 2 as we wrap up the tournament across all divisions! Championship Weekend is just around the corner—medals, trophies, and bragging rights are on the line! Let’s finish strong, but with class and sportsmanship!

Cheers!

President’s Weekly Recap: RCFHA Regular Season Week 11-14

Welcome back for the recap of Week 14 of the 2024/2025 season! It’s been awhile! We’ve been jam packed with events since my last update, so I’m going to provide you all with a summary of what’s happened and what we’re looking forward to in the next couple weeks! And as always, include some shoutouts to our members.

Week 11: Fast & Furious 11 – Overtime Drift

Shoutout to Kade Rattanpal, goalie for the Fast and Furious, who put on an outstanding performance to force overtime in a hard-fought battle against the Vipers. Also, a special shoutout to Mites call-up Elliot Yang, who stepped up and played a stellar game to help the team!

Week 12: Third Period Thriller – A Goalie Stands Tall

Huge shoutout to Everett Powers on Arctic Wolves, who stood tall in the third period and overtime to keep the team in the game. Incredible effort!

Week 13: Banditz Blitz – A Five-Goal Comeback Stunner

Jacob Wong took over the game in the PeeWee division, leading the Banditz to victory with an outstanding performance—scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists. The Banditz stormed back with five unanswered goals, capping off their comeback win in overtime. What a game!

Week 14: The GRINCHES Stealing Points

The PeeWee division’s GRINCHES have been steadily picking up points over the last few games. A big shoutout to Coach Noam Knurik for motivating his players and keeping their spirits high. Special recognition to Senior Squirt permanent call-up Skyler Duzita, who has been logging reliable minutes, and Pei-An Chen, who has been a consistent and dependable player during this stretch. Keep up the great work!

RCFHA Pub Night: Burgers, Beverages, and Big Wins

RCFHA hosted our first-ever Pub Night Social fundraiser, and it was a fantastic success! Approximately 50 attendees gathered at Stanley’s Grill for a night of socializing and fun. Congratulations to Shawn Halperin, who won our 50/50 draw! Thanks to everyone’s support, we raised approximately $460, which will go toward tournament prizes for our youth players!

Coaches vs. Refs: A Battle for Bragging Rights (and a Little Chaos!) & Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

The Krispy Kreme fundraiser was a huge hit, selling out quickly during the Junior Squirt games and raising $300 toward tournament prizes for youth players. Following the fundraiser, the highly anticipated Referee vs. Coach game took place, drawing a fantastic crowd of youth players eager to watch their coaches and referees compete in some friendly competition. The game was a thrilling battle that ended in a 5-4 victory for the coaches. In an amusing turn of events, Referee-in-Chief, Nicole Nagra, secured the win for the coaches by scoring the game-winning goal—against her own team! The deciding goal came with just one minute left on the clock, wrapping up an exciting and well-attended event.

Cosom Selects: The Best of the Best Take the Floor

The highly anticipated Annual Cosom Selects Event is set to take place this upcoming weekend, running alongside the final regular season games. Larry Knurik has been working hard to organize this event, which showcases top-tier competition and sportsmanship. Be sure to check out the full details on the Cosom Selects page to stay updated on schedules and game times.

Tournament Countdown: Get Ready for the Big Showdown!

With tournament season fast approaching, Leah Sprintzios and Nicole Nagra have been hard at work organizing events and games for the upcoming competition. The Tournament will be held over two weekends—February 28 to March 2, 2025, and March 7 to March 9, 2025—at Burnett Secondary, Errington Elementary, and Bridge Elementary. Parents attending games at Errington and Bridge will be able to watch from the stage seating, though parking is limited at Errington, while Burnett and Bridge have plenty of space.

Schedules, game times, and locations can all be found on SportNinja. We strongly recommend subscribing to your team’s iCal/Outlook calendar to stay updated. A short YouTube tutorial is available to guide you through the process.

In addition to the games, we have several special events planned, including raffle prizes, 50/50 draws, and a fully stocked concession stand. The RCFHA Store will also be open, providing a chance to grab some league merchandise. Finally, our tournament will conclude with an Awards Ceremony on March 9, 2025, at 6:30 PM, where every youth player in attendance will receive a special takeaway. You won’t want to miss it!

We are also looking for volunteers to help make this event a success. While volunteering is not mandatory, we would greatly appreciate it if each family could contribute just one hour of their time. The Volunteer Sign-Up Form, including available time slots, is available online.

Nicole has prepared an important Tournament Parent/Guardian Handout with all the key details—please review it on our website. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to reach out to Nicole Nagra at officials@rcfha.org

With the final weekend of the regular season coming up, plus the excitement of the tournament right around the corner, there’s a lot to look forward to! Thank you to all our players, coaches, referees, and families for making this season such a fantastic one so far!

Cheers!

President’s Weekly Recap: RCFHA Regular Season Week 9

Welcome back for the recap of Week 9 of the 2024/2025 season! We are back from Winter Break! Hope it was filled with time with your families and friends and good food! I definitely enjoyed the time off and hope you did too! But now, we’re back and we had yet another exciting weekend filled with thrilling games. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from Week 9:

The Firehawks’ Flame: Jaylen’s Booming Brilliance

Jaylen Birring of the Firehawks put on a show this weekend, dominating the game with his booming shot and impressive playmaking skills. Despite Jaylen’s standout performance, the Furious Scorpions refused to back down, making the match incredibly close right up until the final minute. A fantastic effort by both teams!

Between the Pipes: A Goalie Brotherhood

One of the heartwarming moments from the PeeWee division came during an intermission when Ian Davidson of the Eagles and Gavin Garner of the Grinches were spotted exchanging tips and talking shop. It’s great to see such sportsmanship and camaraderie between our young goaltenders. Keep it up, Ian and Gavin!

Avengers Assemble: Rising Above Adversity

The PeeWee division’s Avengers pulled off a remarkable victory, defeating the top-tier Banditz 2-0 despite a short bench. Keyaan Meralli delivered an exceptional performance, helping lead his team to victory. Special shoutout to head coach Noah Murray and assistant coach Aleem Meralli, whose leadership and encouragement motivated the team to rise above injuries and player shortages. Their resilience and dedication were truly inspiring—well done, Avengers!

Fine-Tuning the Mites Machine

A special thank you to Helen Kempler, our dedicated Mites Coordinator. Helen has been in constant communication with our Mites coaches, working tirelessly all season to ensure that the teams have an enjoyable experience. While she faced some challenges with team balancing, Helen has collaborated with coaches to propose solutions that benefit the entire division. This type of open communication and problem-solving is essential to keeping our divisions running smoothly. Thank you for your hard work and commitment, Helen!

Welcome back for the recap of Week 8 of the 2024/2025 season! Another fantastic weekend of games, goals, and community spirit at Burnett—and our last weekend before the Winter Break! Here’s a look at some of the highlights from Week 8:

Junior Squirt Spotlight: A Wall in the Crease

This week, Junior Squirt division goalie Kellan Labar caught everyone’s attention with his incredible saves and quick reflexes. Kellan showcased exceptional poise and talent, by commanding the crease with unwavering confidence. His standout performance was crucial in helping his team stay competitive in a hard-fought match, showing just how valuable he is between the pipes.

Affiliate Hero: Rising to the Challenge

A huge shoutout to Junior Squirt player Miles Pettersson, who was called up to play as an affiliate player goaltender for the Senior Squirt Screaming Chickens team in their match against the Mavericks. Despite the pressure, Miles rose to the occasion, making pivotal saves and showcasing resilience in net. It’s great to see some of our young talent stepping in and delivering big performances in older divisions—way to go, Miles!

Celebrating a Milestone: A Goal to Remember

One of the most heartwarming moments of the weekend came when Cayden Lekhi scored his very first goal! The entire gym and team erupted with cheers as teammates and fans celebrated this unforgettable achievement. Congratulations, Cayden—hopefully this is just the beginning of many more to come!

Behind the Scenes: Balancing the Books, Building the League

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Vincent Li, who wears two hats as both Registrar and Treasurer for the RCFHA. Vincent has been instrumental in managing our league’s finances and ensuring that we stay on budget while making the most of our registration fees and sponsorship money. Thanks to his diligence, we’re able to provide the best possible experience for our players and families.
