Tournament Weekend 2 Reminders

Hi all

Just some reminders and information for the final weekend of the tournament

Tournament Scorekeepers/Timekeepers

Please ensure you only schedule those who are skilled and well-experienced with the iPad/score clock. Games in the tournament are very fast, so a proficient score/time keeper helps prevent delays and keeps us on schedule. This is especially important for the finals. Last weekend, we did have some inexperienced scorekeepers and timekeepers which did cause some delays, so please schedule your very best for the final weekend.

Equal Playing Time

A very strong reminder from our head of coaching to ensure coaches are running their lines fairly. Only exceptions can be a powerplay or the last few minutes of a close game. Even in the finals, we expect all players to be playing equal amounts of time. If we notice discrepancies, we may be forced to act quicker than usual since there won’t be much time and room left. Please do not put us in this tough position.

Clearing the Bench Between Games

Once your game is complete, please try your best to empty the bench area to make room for the next team. At the same time, the coach of the next game should take their equipment and their team to their net while the bench is being cleared. This way, no two teams should be in one bench at a given time.

Schedule Updates

As the semi final and final matchups get finalized, we will be updating SportNinja, the website, and the brackets on the poster boards. Obviously, these will take time, so we please bear with us. The fastest update will be the manual poster boards in the hallway.

Awards Ceremony

The awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday Mar 8th from 5-6PM. Please have your teams organized based on the layout attached. There will be labeled boxes with the each team’s name on the floor indicating where teams should be seated. The Division Coordinator will distribute the Medals to the Team Manager of each team receiving a medal. (All teams in Mites and Jr Squirts will receive a medal.)  Division Coordinators, please see Sally at any time on Sunday to pick up the medals.

Equipment Return

Equipment drop-off will happen Monday, March 9th at the locker that is located at 12100 Riverside Way. The code to enter the storage facility is 197576. The allocated time for each division are as follows.

Mites/ Jr. Squirt: 6pm-6:30pm

Mini Mites/ Sr. Squirt/Adult: 6:30pm-7pm

Pewee/Bantam: 7pm-7:30pm

Please email equipment@rcfha.org if you are not able to make it or have any questions.

Jersey Return

Please see below instructions from our Assistant Equipment Manager Rowan Maclean

As mentioned previously, this season’s jersey returns will be through team managers and team captains for the adult league. As Farhaan mentioned in his previous email, this process will be running in reverse of how Jerseys and deposits were distributed and collected at the start of season.

I have set a few times and the location that I will be available for you to pick up your team’s jersey deposits, and drop off the jerseys. When picking up the Jerseys, I will also be giving you a print out for parents or players to sign, acknowledging they’ve received their deposit. I will also include information on who gave cash, and who gave a cheque, or if they never paid their deposit. You do not need to exchange cheques for jerseys; the cheques will be held by us and shred unless there is a failure to return the jersey attached to it.

Manager Deposit Pickup Times:
Managers may pick up their teams’ deposits from me on the following dates and times:

  • March 6th – 4:30pm to 7:00pm
  • March 9th – 12:00pm to 2:00pm
  • March 13th – 4:30 to 7:00pm

Location: 14-12331 Phoenix Dr. Richmond, BC, Canada.

Jersey Return by Managers:
Managers may meet with me to return their team jerseys and Forfeited Deposits on the following dates and times:

  • March 23rd – 4:30pm to 7:00pm
  • March 27th – 12:00pm to 2:00pm
  • March 30th – 4:30pm to 7:00pm

Location: 14-12331 Phoenix Dr. Richmond, BC, Canada.

Final Due Date:
All jerseys must be returned and deposits collected no later than: April 2nd

Deposits not collected by this date will be considered forfeited.

Ideally, families will receive their deposits back through their team managers. Please ensure jerseys are returned to your manager before the scheduled deadline.

If any family is unable to return their jersey to their manager within the given time period and does not wish to forfeit their deposit, please contact me directly at:

Rowan.Maclean@rcfha.org

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You must reach out to me a minimum of 2 weeks before the deadline has passed. Failure to do so will result in the forfeit of your deposit.

My goal is to ensure everyone has a fair and equal opportunity to return their jerseys and receive their deposit; please contact me with any inquiries you may have regarding this season’s jersey returns.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Rowan Maclean

Thank you all for your help and hard work this season, it has truly been a pleasure working with all of you.

Excited for the finale of our 50th season!

2026-2027 Registration Info & Tournament Reminders

Dear RCFHA Members

I am excited to share Registration information for the Fall 2026-2027 Season, and additionally some Spring 2026 Programs:

Fall 2026-2027 Registration

Registration for next season will open today, Feb 27th at 5:00PM. As always, we will be running a Tournament discount until 11:59PM on Mar 8th. Registration costs will be at the lowest amount during this time, so we highly encourage you all to take advantage of this discount and register early! Registration details and pricing can be found here.

Spring 2026 Programs

This year, we will be running a variety of casual programs for all our age groups into the Spring season, from April to June. Registration for all these programs are now open!

Mini Mites, Mites, and Jr Squirt:

  • These programs will allow players the opportunity to develop their floor hockey skills through fun, safe and high-energy activities. Players will work on stick/puck handling, passing, and shooting along with mini-scrimmages. Most importantly, to have fun and develop teamwork and good sportsmanship skills.
  • Details can be found here. Registration is already open! We have limited spots for these programs, so please sign up soon if you are interested.

ParaCosom:

  • This program is designed to improve accessibility to our sport through extra care and awareness for physical, mental, and sensory needs.
  • Please view the official landing page on our website for all the information.
  • Registration is already open!  Please help us spread the word by sharing anyone you know who could benefit from this inclusive and accessible program.
  • As our league is fully volunteer run, we are actively looking for youth and adult volunteers. No experience is required; our Program Director Rubyia can provide all the necessary training. Please reach out to her if you are interested Paracosom@rcfha.org

Adult Drop-in:

  • Our drop-in programs for Adults will be returning in April. We have both competitive drop-in (similar pace and skill to the current Adult division), and non-competitive drop-in (much slower, beginner skill-level for adults who want to stay in shape and have a good time). More details can be found here.
  • This year, we would like those who are wanting to register for multiple sessions to do so using our online registration system. Paying in advance will be cheaper than paying $5 at the door.
  • You can also register and/or play to attend competitive on Tuesdays and continue with non-competitive on Thursdays.

If you have any questions about any of our programs, please email registration@rcfha.org.

Registration Instructions

Throughout the season, we understand that our league emails have not been successfully received by some of you, with some of them ending up in the spam folder. We have heard your frustrations and have spent the last few months looking for a solution.

I am excited to announce that we have found a permanent solution that will not only solve the email issues, but also provide our league the opportunity to become more technologically advanced. We will be transferring our entire registration system from LeagueOne to a new, more advanced registration system called RAMP. RAMP is currently being used by a multitude of large sport programs across the country, including our sister organization Richmond Minor Ball Hockey Association. This software will provide the functionality to make the Cosom experience more efficient and user friendly for our members.

We will be spending the off-season setting up these new features for the start of the 2026-2027 season, but for now the first step is to collect all future registrations using our new system. This new registration system is fully set up and tested, but we understand this will be new for some of you, so we have provided some brief instructions attached to this email.

If you require additional assistance, our Registrar, Thomas, will be at the Concession Table during the Tournament, and can help you with your registration. Again, any questions can also be sent to registration@rcfha.org.

Tournament Weekend 1 Reminders

Finally, just some final reminders for this weekend.

  • Concession Booth: Items will include pre-packaged snacks, Gatorade, candy, etc. Unfortunately we are not permitted to sell hot food, but you are still welcome to bring your own. Please ensure teams, parents, and guests clean up after eating and that food and drink is only consumed in the gym foyer and not either gymnasium.
  • Merch Booth: This will be your last opportunity to snag some 50th merchandise, so make sure to grab something before its too late!
  • Arts & Crafts Table: There will be an Arts & Crafts table in the foyer. Parents and children can create team signs using the provided materials, and there will also be coloring sheets available if some of the young ones need to be entertained!
  • TV Viewing Area: There will be a TV in the Foyer showing all games in the Small Gym, and those in the Large Gym later in the evening.
  • 50years of Team Photos: Another TV in the Foyer will be showing old team photos from the last 50 years! Some of these spread out around the foyer as well.
  • Standings & Scores: please check our tournament page for all tournament related information, including scores, schedules, stream links, etc. We will also have these displayed on the classic posterboards in the foyer.

Thank you all for reading the abundant information above. Of course, all this information is on our website, and you can always check with your Team Managers if you have any questions. All other inquiries can be sent to tournament@rcfha.org.

See you all this weekend for RCFHA’s 50th Tournament!

February Schedule Updates

Hi Everyone

Please see below for important schedule updates and tournament info

Feb 7th Legacy Game:

We are hosting a Legacy Game in honor of the league’s 50th anniversary *this Saturday at 6:30pm*

The Legacy Game is meant to recognize past generations of the League in a fun but casual game setting. We have several past coaches playing, as well as a lot of female players from the 90s and 2000s, back

when our league was a girls only league/when there was a separate girls division.

Please invite your teams to come/stick around on Saturday to watch!

Merch Pop-up on Saturday, February 7th

We will also set up another pop-up table with our 50th Anniversary logo merchandise for purchase on Saturday, February 7, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. If you missed this during Photo Day, here’s another chance to purchase some memorable merch!

Feb 8th Adult Games Cancelled:

Just a reminder, all Adult games this Sunday Feb 8th have been cancelled for the Super Bowl. We will be running a drop-in style scrimmage from 5:30-7:30PM instead. Adult players wishing to participate are asked to bring both their home and away jerseys.

Feb 21st/22nd Cosom Selects:

  • As you all know, Cosom Selects will take place on Feb 21st and Feb 22nd. Details are as follows.
  • Mites Division: an additional game will be held after the regularly scheduled Mites games on February 21st; this will be a sign-up jamboree game where teams are made on the spot and is a great chance for players to meet new peers. The sign-up form will come out by this weekend.
  • Junior Squirts, Senior Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam Divisions: A player from each team will be participating in one of 4 different skill competitions against their peers from other teams in the same division.
  • A Selects Game will also be played – coaches will nominate players from their own team to participate in the game based off a combination of sportsmanship, teamwork and skill. For Junior Squirts to Peewee, it will be a regular length 5v5 game. For Bantam, the game will be played in the 4v4 overtime format with three 10-minute periods.

Skills Competition:

  • Accuracy Shooting: contestants will have 15 pucks and 30 seconds (whichever runs out first) to knock down 4 targets – one in each corner of the net.
  • Whoever defeats the most targets (or uses the least time to defeat all 4) wins.
  • Fastest Runner: contestants will simply race against each other (with sticks, without pucks) from one end of the gym to the other. Whoever wins the race wins.
  • Hardest Shot: contestants will have 3 attempts to record the highest possible shot speed according to a radar gun. Fastest shot speed wins.
  • NOTE: the radar gun can be sensitive – it is suggested to aim directly for the radar gun behind the net when shooting.
  • Passing Challenge: contestants will have 8 pucks and 30 seconds (whichever runs out first) to pass into 2 different mini nets.
  • Whoever gets the most pucks in the two nets combined wins.

Schedule:

Feb 21st:

  • 10:15AM: Mites Selects Jamboree
  • 2:30PM: Jr Selects Game
  • 3:30PM: Jr Selects Skills
  • 4:00PM: Sr Selects Skills

Feb 22nd:

  • 12:00PM: Peewee Selects Game
  • 1:00PM: Peewee Selects Skills
  • 3:45PM: Bantam Selects Game
  • 8:30PM: Adult Selects Game

2026 Tournament Schedule:

We hope you are all excited for the upcoming Tournament, and so we are pleased to publish the Tournament Schedule, see attached. The Tournament will take place on Saturday Feb 28th, Sunday Mar 1st, Saturday Mar 7th, and Sunday Mar 8th, with all games occurring at Burnett Secondary.

You will notice that teams are not yet scheduled into specific slots. This is because the games on Feb 7th and Feb 8th will be the last games that will count towards seeding for the Youth Divisions. Once Youth seeding is decided this weekend, we will update the website for the Round Robin games and inform your Team Managers late next week. Some of the elimination games may be subject to change.

Jersey Deposits and Other Information

Hi Everyone,

Here are some updates and information I would like to share on behalf of some of our executive members.

Jersey Deposit Deadline

First of all, a quick thank you to all the Coaches and Team Managers (TMs) for helping with jersey deposits and distribution this season. You have all been a big part of this season’s jersey distribution and deposit collection; it would not have been possible without your help.

As there are no games on Saturday, Nov. 1st, the deposit deadline for Mini-Mites, Mites, Jr. Squirt, and Sr. Squirt will be extended to Nov. 8th

  • Nov. 2ndRowan will be at Burnett from 10:00am – 4:30pm to collect remaining team deposits
  • Nov. 8th: Rowan will be at Burnett from 9:00am – 7:30pm to collect remaining team deposits

Jersey Deposit Instructions:

  • The deposit amount is $50, paid by either cash or cheque.
    • Cheques can be made out to RICHMOND COSOM FLOOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. Be sure to write player names on cheques.
    • Cash should be placed in a Ziplock or envelope labeled with the player’s first and last name.
  • Give your deposit to your Team Manager. Team Managers will then place all their team’s deposits in a separate bag and give it to Assistant Equipment Manager, Rowan, for collection.
  • You do not need a deposit if you are using a custom jersey
  • At season end when jerseys are returned in good, undamaged condition, cash will be returned and cheques will be shredded.
  • Coaches, please make note of any number change between players

Team Managers can find Rowan near the ref box. If he is unavailable, please ask for an executive and they will collect your deposit on his behalf.

After the deadline has passed, any player who has not made their deposit will not be allowed to play until it has been made. If for any reason a player is unable to make a deposit please reach out, especially if due to a financial hardship.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to Rowan at assistantequiptment@rcfha.org

Roughing/Sportsmanship Reminder:

Please be reminded that RCFHA is a non-contact league and any excessive body contact and/or any prolonged contact will be called a minor roughing penalty.

Also, RCFHA has a zero tolerance level for unsportsmanlike behaviour from players, coaches, and spectators. The Executive have received comments from Parents, Coaches and Players about inappropriate comments to each other (eg. trash talking on the floor). The referees have been instructed to watch for and penalize any and all comments on the floor, benches, etc. It is important for coaches to talk to their teams and parents talk to their children about what players may think of as fun banter may not always be received as it is intended.

If you have any questions or concerns please email Wesley at officials@rcfha.org

  • Games start on Saturday Oct 18, or Sunday Oct 19, depending on your division. The regular season game schedule has now been released and can be found on our website.
  • We will be inviting all parents/players to our scorekeeping app, SportNinja. Here you will be able to see live updates for games, statistics, schedules, etc. Please keep an eye out for this email and join when you get it.

No Food/Drink Policy in Gyms

  • During Working Groups, you may have noticed signs around Burnett reminding everyone that food and drinks are not allowed inside the gym. We will be enforcing this heavily this year, based on the feedback we received from the school district.
  • You may eat and drink whatever you wish on the tables in the foyer, but please refrain from bringing this into the gym. Water/Gatorade is permitted on the team benches, and you may drink coffee in sealed/vacuumed containers on the bleachers, but nothing more.

General Information for Parents

  • We have created a “Parents Corner” section on our website. Here you will find all information and details that may be pertinent to you as a parent (equipment information, rules, code of conduct, etc).
  • Although safety goggles are not required, they are highly recommended by our Executive, especially at the younger age groups. We have partnered with a vendor to supply sport goggles at a discounted rate (https://bluecutglasses.com/discount/RCFHA25OFF use code “RCFHA25OFF”). We recommend placing group team orders to save on shipping. Alternatively, we could look at making one large league order if there is enough interest. Please discuss with your team managers, and we will work with them to ensure you all get the best deal.

Team Managers:

  • This year, we are requiring all teams to have a Team Manager. Information on duties and responsibilities can be found here. If you are able to volunteer as the Team Manager for your team, please email info@rcfha.org.

Player and Parent Code of Conduct:

  • We would like to remind you all of the player and parent code of conduct that you signed when you registered. It is important for all of us to work together to uphold the values that make Cosom what it is. Please be especially mindful when speaking to our refs as they are minors. If you have any concerns please email officials@rcfha.org.

Email & Social Media Updates

  • We understand that our emails have been ending up in the spam folder for many of you. We are investigating, but unfortunately we have not yet found a long-term solution.
  • Please make sure to keep checking your spam folder in case our emails are flagged.
  • We highly encourage you to follow our FacebookInstagram, and TikTok pages. Not only does our social media team post photos and videos frequently, but they also post league updates, similar to what is sent out in league emails. This means that even if you miss an email, you will be notified of it if you are following our social media pages.

Non-Competitive Adult Drop-in

  • This is a beginner-level skill, lower paced, beginner-to-intermediate option for adult players looking to keep in shape and play hockey. We created this option after hearing there were a number of parents who would love to play Cosom but were discouraged by the fast gameplay of the Adult division.
  • Players should choose this option if they are looking to learn how to play Cosom hockey, are looking for a social environment, or would like to play Cosom hockey in a lower-stakes environment to remain physically active.
  • If you are a highly skilled, competitive player, we encourage you to attend the Competitive Drop-In option instead – which will start in the Spring.
  • Schedule: Maple Lane – 7:00 – 9:00 PM – Thursdays – Oct 16, 2025 to Mar 12, 2026 except Dec 11, Dec 18, and Jan 1
  • Facebook Link to Join: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/16DMc5DoBp/
  • Pricing: Drop-in fee: $5 per session OR pay-in-Advance until 2nd session fee: $60 for all 19 sessions. Please bring cash to the sessions.

We hope you are excited to start the season next week!

On behalf of our Executive Team, I would like to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving!
