We are heading into the homestretch of the season and here are some important dates and events to add to your calendar:

Games on Saturday, January 31 at Thomas Kidd Elementary

Due to a cancellation at Burnett for a basketball tournament, games for Mini Mites, Mites, Junior Squirts and Senior Squirts will take place at Thomas Kidd Elementary.

Note that games for Pee Wee, Bantam and Adult, on Sunday, February 1, are still at Burnett.

Merch Pop-up on Saturday, February 7

We will also set up another pop-up table with our 50^th Anniversary logo merchandise for purchase on Saturday, February 7, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. If you missed this during Photo Day, here’s another chance to purchase some memorable merch!

Cosom Selects the weekend of February 21 and 22

Cosom Selects Event was created to showcase the skill and talent of our players in our Association. More details to come so get ready to cheer on your teammates!

Marcel Doucet Scholarship Award 

At the end of each season, the RCFHA will accept applications for the Marcel Doucet Scholarship Award. It is awarded to an applicant in their Grade 12 year or First Year Post-Secondary. For more information or to apply – https://rcfha.org/youth/marcel-doucet-scholarship/. Applications are due by Friday, February 13.

Tournament Weekends

We are currently working on the tournament schedules and will send out in the new few weeks. Tournament will take place over two weekends, from Friday to Sunday:

February 27, 28 and March 1

March 6, 7 and 8

Darby Photos

Your player’s photos are now LIVE on the darbyphotos.ca website for your viewing. Please enter the code that was provided to you at your photo session to view your private image gallery, and browse the available products! If you cannot locate your code, please reach out to your team manager or coach.

Products include trading cards, digital copies, magazine covers, posters, team photos and more!! Additionally, we would like to highlight that each player will receive an automatic memory mate courtesy of the league. This does not need to be ordered unless you want additional copies. If you are unsure what a memory mate is, please visit the gallery as there is a sample shown. 

All orders will be due at midnight on February 4, 2026. Orders placed before this time have the option for free delivery back to the league to be handed to you by your coach.
If you place an order after the due date, only our shipping option will be available and the order will be mailed to your provided address.

RCFHA-Richmond Sockeyes Night – February 12th at 7:00 pm

• The Richmond Sockeyes are hosting an open night, filled with some great local community hockey against the Langley Trappers.
• Location: Minoru Arenas
• Tickets: Youth Admission is free if you wear your home (blue) RCFHA jersey, $15 for adults, $12 for Seniors, $10 for students and $6 for additional youth. Children 6 and under are free. Tickets are at the door (debit/cash accepted) and there are no assigned seats.

We would like to share some important information as we resume our programs.

Email Communication

• Our Director of Tech Ops has been working hard on trying to improve our leaguewide communication, as we know many of you were not receiving our emails. We are testing a new form of email communication that we hope will improve our correspondence.
• If you continue to have issues or have any other feedback, please contact Alan at techops@rcfha.org

ParaCosom 2026

• After undergoing research, development, and test runs over the last year, we are very excited to officially launch our ParaCosom Program!
• This program is designed to improve accessibility to our sport through extra care and awareness for physical, mental, and sensory needs.
• Please view the official landing page on our website for all the information ParaCosom – Richmond Cosom Floor Hockey Association
• Registration is now open with sessions starting as early as this Sunday, so please help spread the word!
• As our league is fully volunteer run, we are actively looking for youth and adult volunteers. No experience is required; our Program Director Rubyia can provide all the necessary training. Please reach out to her if you are interested Paracosom@rcfha.org

Photo Day – Saturday, January 17th

• Please see the attached document for the Photo Day Schedule
• Photos will take place at Burnett in the small gym. Please arrive 20 minutes early so you and your team are ready to go for your team photo, as Darby runs through everything pretty quickly.
• Please bring your blue jersey for the photo (don’t forget to bring your white jersey if you are the away team on that day). Full-time goalies, you are welcome to wear your green goalie jersey if you choose to.
• As part of Youth registration fees, a team photo and individual photo is provided without extra charge. If you would like to order something extra, Darby Photos will provide an access code to their website, where you can order online. Please remember to get your access code from your team manager or coach on Photo Day if you wish to order anything extra (if you do not wish to order anything extra, you do not need to do anything except show up on Photo Day).
• If you cannot make your team’s exact photo time, you are encouraged to attend photo day for just an individual image. You can do this between the hours of 9am and 10:30am on Jan 17th.

50^th Anniversary Merch

• We have a select number of items available for purchase to commemorate our 50^th Anniversary. Please see the attached flyer for items and pricing.

Hi Everyone,

Two updates to share with you. First, we have decided to extend the pub night registration deadline to 11:00 p.m. on November 23. The Event Team will be at Burnett on Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to collect any remaining registrations.

Second, the Richmond Cosom Floor Hockey Association is pleased to open pre orders for our upcoming Krispy Kreme fundraiser on Saturday, December 6. Donuts will be available for fifteen dollars per box. If you would like to place a pre order, please use the link below. RCFHA is excited to announce our upcoming second annual Pub Night Social! This adult-only event is an opportunity for parents and adults in our Association to connect, unwind, and have a great time. Please help us spread awareness of this event by sending a message to the parents/guardians/adult players of your team. We would appreciate it if you could also collect payment (same as jersey deposits) during practice or games, and ask all attendees to register their attendance at the following link:

• When: November 28, 2025 at 7pm
• Ticket Price: $25
• Package: Burger (beef or veggie), fries, one drink of your choice (beer, soda or coffee).

  • Cheques can be made out to ‘Richmond Cosom Floor Hockey Association’. Be sure to write attendee names on the memo line of the cheques.

Hi Everyone,

Here are some updates and information I would like to share on behalf of some of our executive members.

Jersey Deposit Deadline

First of all, a quick thank you to all the Coaches and Team Managers (TMs) for helping with jersey deposits and distribution this season. You have all been a big part of this season’s jersey distribution and deposit collection; it would not have been possible without your help. 

As there are no games on Saturday, Nov. 1^st, the deposit deadline for Mini-Mites, Mites, Jr. Squirt, and Sr. Squirt will be extended to Nov. 8^th. 

• Nov. 2^nd: Rowan will be at Burnett from 10:00am – 4:30pm to collect remaining team deposits
• Nov. 8^th: Rowan will be at Burnett from 9:00am – 7:30pm to collect remaining team deposits

Jersey Deposit Instructions:

• The deposit amount is $50, paid by either cash or cheque.
  • Cheques can be made out to RICHMOND COSOM FLOOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. Be sure to write player names on cheques.
  • Cash should be placed in a Ziplock or envelope labeled with the player’s first and last name.
• Give your deposit to your Team Manager. Team Managers will then place all their team’s deposits in a separate bag and give it to Assistant Equipment Manager, Rowan, for collection.
• You do not need a deposit if you are using a custom jersey
• At season end when jerseys are returned in good, undamaged condition, cash will be returned and cheques will be shredded.
• Coaches, please make note of any number change between players

Team Managers can find Rowan near the ref box. If he is unavailable, please ask for an executive and they will collect your deposit on his behalf.

After the deadline has passed, any player who has not made their deposit will not be allowed to play until it has been made. If for any reason a player is unable to make a deposit please reach out, especially if due to a financial hardship.

Roughing/Sportsmanship Reminder:

Please be reminded that RCFHA is a non-contact league and any excessive body contact and/or any prolonged contact will be called a minor roughing penalty. 

Also, RCFHA has a zero tolerance level for unsportsmanlike behaviour from players, coaches, and spectators. The Executive have received comments from Parents, Coaches and Players about inappropriate comments to each other (eg. trash talking on the floor). The referees have been instructed to watch for and penalize any and all comments on the floor, benches, etc. It is important for coaches to talk to their teams and parents talk to their children about what players may think of as fun banter may not always be received as it is intended.

Hi everyone

I hope you all enjoyed the last few weekends with the Block Party, Evaluations, and Working Groups. Here is some information on what to expect next and some general housekeeping items.

Final Teams:

• After our thorough and extensive team building process, teams have now been finalized by our coordinators and have been sent to the coaches.
• Coaches will be contacting you directly with team-specific details, including practice information.
• If you have not heard from your coach by Saturday evening, please let us know.

Practice & Game Schedule

• Practices start on either Tuesday Oct 14, or Wednesday Oct 15, depending on what team your child is placed on.
• Games start on Saturday Oct 18, or Sunday Oct 19, depending on your division. The regular season game schedule has now been released and can be found on our website.
• We will be inviting all parents/players to our scorekeeping app, SportNinja. Here you will be able to see live updates for games, statistics, schedules, etc. Please keep an eye out for this email and join when you get it.

No Food/Drink Policy in Gyms

• During Working Groups, you may have noticed signs around Burnett reminding everyone that food and drinks are not allowed inside the gym. We will be enforcing this heavily this year, based on the feedback we received from the school district.
• You may eat and drink whatever you wish on the tables in the foyer, but please refrain from bringing this into the gym. Water/Gatorade is permitted on the team benches, and you may drink coffee in sealed/vacuumed containers on the bleachers, but nothing more.

General Information for Parents

• We have created a “Parents Corner” section on our website. Here you will find all information and details that may be pertinent to you as a parent (equipment information, rules, code of conduct, etc).
• Although safety goggles are not required, they are highly recommended by our Executive, especially at the younger age groups. We have partnered with a vendor to supply sport goggles at a discounted rate (https://bluecutglasses.com/discount/RCFHA25OFF use code “RCFHA25OFF”). We recommend placing group team orders to save on shipping. Alternatively, we could look at making one large league order if there is enough interest. Please discuss with your team managers, and we will work with them to ensure you all get the best deal.

Team Managers:

• This year, we are requiring all teams to have a Team Manager. Information on duties and responsibilities can be found here. If you are able to volunteer as the Team Manager for your team, please email info@rcfha.org.

Player and Parent Code of Conduct:

• We would like to remind you all of the player and parent code of conduct that you signed when you registered. It is important for all of us to work together to uphold the values that make Cosom what it is. Please be especially mindful when speaking to our refs as they are minors. If you have any concerns please email officials@rcfha.org.

Email & Social Media Updates

• We understand that our emails have been ending up in the spam folder for many of you. We are investigating, but unfortunately we have not yet found a long-term solution.
• Please make sure to keep checking your spam folder in case our emails are flagged.
• We highly encourage you to follow our Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages. Not only does our social media team post photos and videos frequently, but they also post league updates, similar to what is sent out in league emails. This means that even if you miss an email, you will be notified of it if you are following our social media pages. 

Non-Competitive Adult Drop-in

• This is a beginner-level skill, lower paced, beginner-to-intermediate option for adult players looking to keep in shape and play hockey. We created this option after hearing there were a number of parents who would love to play Cosom but were discouraged by the fast gameplay of the Adult division.
• Players should choose this option if they are looking to learn how to play Cosom hockey, are looking for a social environment, or would like to play Cosom hockey in a lower-stakes environment to remain physically active.
• If you are a highly skilled, competitive player, we encourage you to attend the Competitive Drop-In option instead – which will start in the Spring.
• Schedule: Maple Lane – 7:00 – 9:00 PM – Thursdays – Oct 16, 2025 to Mar 12, 2026 except Dec 11, Dec 18, and Jan 1

• Pricing: Drop-in fee: $5 per session OR pay-in-Advance until 2^nd session fee: $60 for all 19 sessions. Please bring cash to the sessions.

Hi everyone

We would like to share some important information for Evaluations Day on Sep 21^st at Burnett Secondary.

Evaluations Day:

The schedule for Evaluations Day is as follow:

• Jr Squirt: 9:00AM-10:00AM, 10:00AM-11:00AM
• Mites: 11:15AM-12:30PM
• PeeWee: 12:45-1:30PM, 1:30PM-2:15PM, 2:15PM-3:00PM
• Sr Squirt: 3:15-4:15PM, 4:15PM-5:15PM, 5:15PM-6:15PM
• Bantam: 6:30-7:00PM

Please sign up for your preferred time slot using this Google Form. Please remember that Evaluations are mandatory, and slots will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any conflicts please inform info@rcfha.org right away. Requests will not be considered for players who do not attend Evaluations Day without informing the league.

Be sure to arrive at least 15 mins before your slot to check-in.

Working Groups:

After Evaluations, players will be placed in temporary Working Groups which will be evaluated on how they perform. Changes will be made in between the two Working Group sessions after which final teams will be made.

The schedule for the Working Groups is as follows:

Saturday Sep 27^th/Oct 4^th:

• Mites: 9:00AM-11:00AM
• Jr Squirt: 11:15AM-2:15PM
• Sr Squirt: 2:30PM-6:30PM

Sunday Sep 28^th/Oct 5^th:

• PeeWee: 10:00AM-2:00PM
• Bantam: 2:15PM-4:15PM

Players only play a portion of the allotted time, not the entire time listed for each division

You will be notified of your designated working group in the days leading up to each weekend

Registration:

Please be sure to register as soon as possible if you have not already. If you have friends that are interested in playing but have not yet registered, please urge them to do so before we reach our capacity. We still have our Referral Program where you may be compensated for any non-family referrals, provided they play for the entire season! Another reminder to apply for the Active Recreation & Sport Fund if you are eligible, even if you have already registered for Cosom.

If you have any practice night and/or player requests, they need to be sent to registration@rcfha.org by Sep 19^th 2025, after which requests will not be considered. Our coordinators will try our best to accommodate requests, but we can not guarantee.

Dear Cosom Members,

With the start of another school year marks the beginning of another Cosom Season. However, this will be no ordinary year. This is actually the 50th Anniversary of the Richmond Cosom Floor Hockey Association! For half a century, our league has brought together players, parents, and volunteers who share a passion for our unique sport. Operating as Richmond’s Best Value Sports League since 1975 is no small feat and is a testament to the passion and uniqueness of our Cosom community. We are very excited to be celebrating this milestone with our community, both past and present, and honoring those who have contributed to building this league to where it is today!

With that being said, we would like to share some important updates for the upcoming season:

1. Division-Specific Game & Practice Times:
   • The finalized times for each division can be found on our website.
   • A reminder that a player’s practice night will be finalized once they are placed on a team.
2. Registration:
   • Our divisions are filling up quickly, so if you have not yet registered we urge you to do so as we will be closing the divisions once the capacities are reached. Current division sizes are:
   • Mites: 80% full, Jr Squirt: 80% full, Sr Squirt 75% full, PeeWee: 75% full, Bantam: 70% full. 
   • Adult is now 100% full. If you are interested in playing, please email adult@rcfha.org to be placed on the waitlist. 
   • We would like to remind you all about the Active Recreation & Sport Fund. This program provides subsidized sport funding for players under the age of 18 where financial barriers may impact inclusion. As a proud partner of the Richmond Sports Council, we highly recommend applying for this for those who qualify. See the application for details.
3. Block Party: 
   • Our Block Party will be on Sep 20th from 11AM-3PM at Burnett Secondary. Come grab some snacks, bring your friends, shoot around in the gym, and win some prizes! Please see the attached flyer. 
4. Evaluations:
   • We will be holding our evaluations on Sep 21^st at Burnett Secondary. This will be for the Mites-Bantam Divisions. A detailed schedule and sign-up sheet will be sent shortly.
   • Working Groups will be held the following two weekends (Sep 27, 28, Oct 4, 5) for all divisions, including Adult. We will be following the same game times as the regular season. 
5. Coaches & Team Manager:
   • We are still searching for coaches and team managers in all of our divisions. If you are able to help please email coaches@rcfha.org. We are a completely volunteer-run organization so we need your support!

Dear Mites parents,

I hope you are having a lovely summer.

Thank you to everyone who shared input regarding our Mites and Mini-Mites programs. Your feedback played an important role in guiding our decisions. With that, I’d like to share the decisions that have been made by our executive team on both programs.

Mites Program

The Mites program will remain unchanged for the upcoming season. We expect to have approximately four teams and will continue to provide the same structure and level of play as in previous years.

Mini-Mites Program

The Mini-Mites program will follow a phased approach this season. During the first half of the season, games will be played without scorekeeping or penalties to help players adjust and build confidence. In the second half, we will gradually introduce both to support learning and development. Players will be grouped until Christmas, and we may adjust or merge teams based on how things progress.

We will continue to do our best to accommodate sibling and friend requests, however we cannot guarantee any placement. Registration for Mini-Mites will remain open through Christmas, and we will promote the program as a pilot to generate additional interest. At this time, we expect to form approximately two teams. In this division, team goals – not individual stats – will be tracked to encourage group development. We will focus on introducing the kids to our sport in a fun, non-pressured way. 

In summary, the Executives have opted to maintain the current structure of the Mites program and implement a more gradual, development-focused approach for Mini-Mites. We will continue to evaluate the pilot Mini-Mites program throughout the season and make adjustments if needed.
